Cal-OSHA stated that each and every chemical has a MSDS -
Medical Safety Data Sheet - that explains what the medical
procedure is for that particular chemical. Some do not recommend
water flush. Before handling any Corrosive materials, always
consult the MSDS. If the MSDS is not available, check label.
Anyone that is exposed to the corrosive materials must be
able to flush the eye with continuous water flow for 15 minutes
each eye. They must be able to use the flush as a single handed
operation.
If there is mixing or any activity that is known to be of
high hazard with a chemical, there must be an eye flush as
well as a shower available that meets the specifications.
Cal/OSHA recommends that all hazardous activity happen at
the office location. Protective eye wear is to be worn when
administering the product.
§3382. Eye and Face Protection. States:
(a) Employees working in locations where there is a risk of
receiving eye injuries such as punctures, abrasions, contusions,
or burns as a result of contact with flying particles, hazardous
substances, projections or injurious light rays which are
inherent in the work or environment, shall be safeguarded
by means of face or eye protection. Suitable screens or shields
isolating the hazardous exposure may be considered adequate
safeguarding for nearby employees.
The employer shall provide and ensure that
employees use protection suitable for the exposure.
